PROJECTS

Something I have always wanted to do was create a game, I have brainstormed a few ideas before but I never went ahead and learnt how. However, when a friend's birthday was comking up I made it a challenge to learn Unreal from complete scratch and make a working game for her, and it was indeed a challenge as I thought to do this 10 days before it was due.

First I thought about what kind of game, I knew I wanted to incorporate our own characters to make it special and I had those models on hand as well luckily, so I had the characters,  wanted her to interact with them and I wanted there to be a reward so a simple fetch quest should be easy... right?

3 days later, I have learnt the interface and controls and I'm using a village model pack to create a landscape. It took me an entire day to figure out how to set up a door setup with prompt but once it stuck, it helped other things click into place.

A video of the gameplay created in 10 days from no knowledge of Unreal.

Day 5, I finished the landscape and 2 house levels, now using placeholders for the characters I'm making the collection system for the cows, with the overlays as well. This was the most difficult part of the process, but it makes sense as I was actually creating the gameplay and didn't really know what I was doing, I was using several different YouTube tutorials to figure out the things I needed.

Day 8 was the start of actually creating animation, I had sorted the collection system and it worked so I had to now quickly add the characters over the placeholders, I didn't know if I even had time to add animations to them, let alone sound, but I was motivated to try.

Days 8-10 was a mess of me making animations in Blender, figuring out placement in Unreal, having the character's phrase though the ground a couple of times and not understanding the animation system in Unreal completely but it was enough to let me add some idle animations, talking and success to the characters. It's is admitted rough but the fact I got them moving at all in the time frame I found was a success. Then I added sounds literally last minute.

It was a very stressful and chaotic time but I learnt alot from it and it has only fuelled my want to continue to learn game development.

These are the projects portfolios that I have been apart of while in University. Each link will let you see what the project was about, art and concepts, which roles I played in production and the product of the project. These are only 2D projects.
